Silver Towers: Where do they want to put a tower?
June 27, 2010
On June 21 Community Board 2 held a public meeting at which New York University presented its plans for a new tower on the University Village/Silver Towers site in Greenwich Village. Over 200 people and the media showed up. If you missed the meeting, don’t worry. There will be more opportunities to learn about the project and express your views. DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State will try to keep you posted of hearings and other important milestones on this website and via our monthly email newsletter. In the meantime the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has already taken steps to engage the local community and the wider architectural community in the discussion of this proposed development at the landmarked, I. M. Pei designed complex. It has prepared an excellent animated model, based on information NYU provided, showing how the 40-story tower and the “zipper loft” building, proposed adjacent to the Silver Towers complex, would look if built.
