CB2 starts hearing process for NYU’s proposed tower on University Village site
November 11, 2010
On November 8, the Landmarks and Institutions Committees of Community Board 2 held a public hearing at Grace Church School to hear a presentation of, and public comments on, NYU’s proposal to construct a fourth tower within the designated NYC Landmark University Village (Silver Towers) complex.
DOCOMOMO US New York/Tri-State testified in opposition to this intervention, which would fundamentally alter the composition and character of the complex’s site design, as did all of the other public speakers at the standing-room-only meeting.
The CB2 Landmarks Committee, which discussed the proposal after the hearing but did not reach a final resolution or vote, appeared to oppose the proposal. The committee is working on a resolution to be presented to the full Community Board in December.
