New Philadelphia Chapter Forms
February 14, 2011
This is the sort of news we love to share: A new DOCOMOMO chapter has received approval from DOCOMOMO US. A diverse group of art historians, educators, architects, preservationists, construction managers and realtors are among the founding members of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
The Chapter is already hard at work with promoting local Modern heritage. It was involved in the successful effort to get two significant Modern landmarks listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places (see related post). And for the last three years the Chapter has organized a Modern homes tour showcasing houses designed by Richard Neutra, Montgomery and Bishop, Frank Weise and Norman Rice and others. This year’s tour, to be held in late summer, will feature the Modern homes of Delaware County. (Two of the homes on the tour are shown at right.) Proceeds from the tour will fund the Chapter’s education and advocacy efforts and assist in the development of its website.
