Marine Midland Bank designation, Part 1

A hearing was held on landmark designation of 140 Broadway, Gordon Bunshaft’s acclaimed minimalist tower in the Financial District, on April 2 at the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Testimony in support of designation was delivered on behalf of DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State, the New York Landmarks Conservancy, the Historic Districts Council and NYU art history professor Carol Krinsky, author of the definitive monograph on Bunshaft.
At the request of a representative of the building’s owner, the hearing was continued to May 14, when the owner is expected to testify. In the meantime, the record for submission of testimony remains open. Stay tuned…
