Photos from Four Freedoms Park
July 15, 2013
On Saturday June 29 about 30 people came out on a perfect summer day for DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State’s tour of Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. Gina Pollara, executive director of the park, nearly stole the show from the architecture with her fascinating details about Louis Kahn’s design, the construction challenges and the decades long project that brought Kahn’s 1974 design to realization.
This gallery has a selection of photos from the tour to pique your interest. However any photos of this park will be deceivingly underwhelming. The “Room,” the “Wall,” the perspective quirks, the relationship of architecture to river and the expert play with scale must be experienced first hand. Make some plans. The Park is open until 10:30pm everyday in the summer.
