Demolition of Orange County Government Center still option
July 21, 2013
County Executive Ed Diana isn’t giving up his campaign to replace large portions of Paul Rudolph’s 1967 Government Center in Goshen, NY, even after a 15-6 vote for renovation by the legislature last February. In June, Diana asked design teams competing for the contract to oversee work on the center to widen their proposals to consider alternative options that include substantial demolition in addition to complete renovation. The chosen team is asked to provide cost estimates for each. Diana’s office argues that it is collecting “as much information as possible to make an informed decision.” As of now, it is uncertain whether the county could proceed with plans that include demolition without approval from the legislature.
