#SOSBrutalism – a new resource for preserving Brutalist architecture
November 14, 2015
As part of an exhibition that will open in April 2017, Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) and the Wüstenrot Stiftung have recently launched www.SOSBrutalism.org, an online database tool for identifying, documenting, and ultimately preserving Brutalist architecture around the world. The new platform has so far collected details on 700-plus buildings. Aimed at leveraging the power of social media and crowdsourcing, SOSBrutalism.org allows anyone to contribute to the database and content sharing is easy. Users are encouraged to use the hashtag #SOSBrutalism. The campaign is part of a growing effort by independent groups to cultivate respect for Brutalist architecture, most notably by the Brutalist Appreciation Society of the UK, which has a strong presence on Facebook.
