Signatures requested: Petition to Landmark the Ambassador Grill and Lounge and One UN Plaza Hotel Lobby

February 15, 2016

Last month’s e-news shared the late-breaking story that the Ambassador Grill & Lounge and hotel lobby at One UN Plaza, one of the few intact 1970s Modern interiors left in the city, were at risk. Modern advocates throughout the area quickly took action, asking members of the public to write to the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to request an expedited interior designation hearing for the unique space designed by Kevin Roche. DOCOMOMO US, with assistance from DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State board member Kyle Johnson and others, submitted a Request for Evaluation to the Commission along with an urgent call for the agency to hold an emergency hearing and designate these spaces as a NYC Interior Landmark.

DOCOMOMO US has started a petition urging the Landmarks Commission to designate the UN Plaza Ambassador Grill & Lounge and hotel lobby as a New York City Interior Landmark. Sign the petition HERE
