Rumors of MoMA Architecture and Design galleries permanently closing not true

May 21, 2016

A recent announcement that the Architecture and Design Galleries at the Museum of Modern Art would be closing temporarily as part of the ongoing renovations led by Diller Scofidio + Renfro sparked rumors that the closure might be permanent. Considering MoMA’s outsized role in introducing American audiences to and shaping their views of Modern architecture, this would be cause for great concern. However, Martino Stierli, the museum’s Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design, promptly released a statement quelling the speculation and reassuring everyone that “the abolishing of the architecture and design-designated galleries is not and has never been an issue under consideration.”

Claim that MoMA will abolish architecture and design galleries ‘absolutely not true’ says curator” on
