DOCOMOMO US has announced the nine winners of its fourth annual Modernism in America Awards. The chosen projects represent the best of preservation practices, be they returning sites to viability, documentation or advocacy. The awardees exemplify the diversity of Modern buildings and sites—both the iconic and the regionally significant—and the increasing importance of regional forces and development. Two projects from the NY/Tri-State region were recognized: Bell Works, the former Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ, of which DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State has been a strong advocate and watchdog, received the Commercial Design Award of Excellence and the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, CT, received the Civic/Institutional Design Award of Excellence. ...
