A Modern Affair, an Evening to Remember
December 4, 2019
On November 12, friends and supporters of New York Tri-State’s commitment to Modernism gathered in the newly-renovated Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice for an evening of tours, music, drinks, and great conversation.
As the sun went down, and the lights went up, guests gathered on the Dan Kiley-designed terraces of the Center’s garden and marveled at the surrounding skyline through Kevin Roche’s soaring glass cube.
Speakers Eamon Roche and Gus Kiley shared insight into their fathers’ design contributions and the significance of each’s legacy. Both made resonant the efforts of these designers to make spaces that bring people together and the impact that has on a community and on society. This impact was further highlighted with inspiring closing remarks by the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, John Bernstein.
Along with gathering like minds, the evening offered an opportunity to bring attention to the exemplary renovation of the landmark building by the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice in collaboration with Gensler and Raymond Jungles.
DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State would like to thank all of those who supported the evening and made possible a record-setting attendance at 2019’s A Modern Affair. We would also like to particularly thank our sponsors including Gensler and Handel for their top sponsorships.
We look forward to sharing our ongoing Modern Conversations, co-sponsored events, tours, and timely e-news with you all throughout 2020 and beyond.
