United Nations Day Capital Master Plan Tour
October 24, 2013
Celebrate United Nations Day by visiting the United Nations Headquarters—the Archtober building of the day—and attending this private tour co-sponsored by DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State and the AIA New York Chapter. Werner Schmidt, Public Information Officer of the United Nations Capital Master Plan will lead participants on an exploration of the United Nation’s architectural history. The tour will highlight the recent restoration of the Secretariat, which houses the UN's working spaces, and the historic renovation of the three chambers of the Conference Building, originally designed by Sven Markelius of Sweden, Finn Juhl of Denmark and Arnstein Arneberg of Norway and completed in 1952.
The tour will meet inside the group entrance to UN Headquarters on First Avenue across from 42nd Street. Attendee names will be submitted to the United Nations upon reservation. Bring a valid ID, and pass through security clearance upon entering the UN Headquarters. Please plan to arrive early to go through security as the tour will begin promptly at 1pm inside the headquarters. Please submit any attendee name changes by October 17th. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
