Manitoga presents: Sanctuary, an installation of aquatic architecture

May 20, 2015
through November 9, 2015

Manitoga, the house, studio and woodland garden of mid-century designer Russel Wright in Garrison, NY, is featuring an installation of aquatic architecture by resident artist Stephen Talasnik.  Talasnik, whose work is included in major collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Pompidou, and the British Museum, was drawn to Manitoga's seamless architecture and natural splendor. As he explains, "There is an intimacy to the choreographed environment that engages the senses. It compels the individual to confront a very immediate and intimate space within a suggestively theatrical large-scale natural sanctuary." The installation comprises woven reed structures that float upon Manitoga’s Quarry Pool adjacent to the house. Visitors will have the opportunity to take an artist-led tour with Talasnik on May 30 and October 17 in addition to the regular tour options that are available throughout the season.
