Midtown Modernism(s): Crosstown Section: 53rd St. (approx.) East to West
September 12, 2015
It’s no secret (to the DOCOMOMO crowd, at least) that Midtown Manhattan is a trove of noteworthy Modern architecture. AIANY’s Midtown Modernism(s) walking tour series covers the many distinctive buildings and interiors that define the area. Starting with well-known sites such as the Lever House and the Seagram Building, this densely packed tour of Midtown’s multiple modernisms is rounded out by smaller gems like the former Rockefeller Guest House, the Austrian Cultural Institute and Paley Park, and interior spaces featuring work by artists Isamu Noguchi and Louise Nevelson.
