Glass House + Breuer House at Pocantico
May 6, 2016
The Glass House is kicking off its 2016 season with a double-header tour featuring Philip Johnson’s iconic Glass House in New Canaan, CT, and the Marcel Breuer House at Pocantico in Tarrytown, NY. The Breuer House was commissioned in 1948 for an exhibition in the Sculpture Garden of the Museum of Modern Art. After the show, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. saved it from demolition and had it relocated to his estate, Kykuit, for use as a guest house. Today it is, along with the Philip Johnson Glass House, a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The juxtaposition of the two homes in a single tour will offer insight into the similarities and differences of the architects’ interpretations of mid-century residential living.
Friday May 6, 10:30 am – 4:00 pm
Starts at the Glass House Visitor Center
199 Elm St, New Canaan, CT
