Roberto Burle Marx’s Spiritual Modernism

Explore the religious and spiritual inspirations behind revolutionary Modernist landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx’s work. The son of a Brazilian Catholic and a German Jew, Burle Marx drew on influences from both religions and also referenced indigenous Brazilian traditions and the unique natural surroundings of Brazil’s rainforests his work. This talk is complements the Jewish Museum’s current exhibition Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist, which covers the artist’s wide-ranging oeuvre (through September 18).
