Doo Wop Back to the 50’s Neon Nights Tour
June 21, 2016
through September 1, 2016
Vroom, Tiki, Phony Colonee – these are just some of the playful terms used to describe the weekend getaway spots that are the Doo Wop motels of Wildwood, NJ. Built in the 1950s and 1960s when the Jersey Shore’s southernmost beaches saw an influx of visitors as nearby highways opened, many have been torn down. However the area still boasts one of the highest concentrations of this building type (known as “Googie” on the West Coast) in the country. This summer, take a tour of these irresistible throwbacks starting with the recently opened Doo Wop Experience Museum, located in a former diner. The museum houses a collection of neon signs and salvaged memorabilia from the sites that have been lost.
Every Tuesdays & Thursdays through September 1, 8:00 pm
