Mountain Laurel Festival at Manitoga/The Russel Wright Center
June 5, 2010
If you’re in need of a dose of modernism along with nature’s best, you’ll want to visit Manitoga/The Russell Wright Center for its annual Laurel Festival, a block party at Dragon Rock celebrating the blooming of the mountain laurel. Located in Garrison, NY, Manitoga is a 75-acre natural wonderland that was home to the preeminent industrial designer Russel Wright. Over a span of 30 years, Wright reintroduced nature to a landscape that had been scarred by century-long industrial abuse. He later collaborated with architect David Leavitt to design his eco-sensitive Modern house and studio, Dragon Rock. Festival participants will enjoy a potluck lunch and strawberry ice cream. Afterwards, burn the calories off with a trail hike on the property. Families are welcome.
