New Canaan Modern Architects: 50 Years of Achievement 1947-1997
November 3, 2017
The New Canaan Historical Society has been at the forefront of preserving and promoting the town’s rich Modern architecture legacy, leading efforts to survey its Modern homes, nominating them for the National Register of Historic Places, and offering educational programming. Continuing this work, the Carriage Barn Center for the Arts and the New Canaan Historical Society are co-presenting New Canaan Modern Architects: 50 Years of Achievement 1947–1997. The exhibition, curated by Alan Goldberg, FAIA, will feature furniture, drafting tools, house models, and original drawings. The centerpiece is a 40-foot long timeline containing 96 vintage photographs of 68 key projects. Featured architects include Richard Bergman, Marcel Breuer, Victor Christ-Janer, Alan Goldberg, Landis Gores, John Johansen, Philip Johnson, John Black Lee, Gary Lindstrom, Eliot Noyes, Laszlo Papp, and Hugh Smallen.
