Collecting and Living with Danish Modern: Crafting Modern Lifestyle
May 14, 2019
Danish Modern was once perceived as the ultimate combination of fine craftsmanship, simplicity, and function. By the 1970s, together with the entire mid-century design culture, its allure had faded and interest declined, pushing Danish Modern away from mainstream aesthetics. It has made a remarkable comeback since 2000, desired by collectors, utilized by architects, presented in art fairs and museums, explored in scholarships and publications. Design historian Dr. Daniella Ohad hosts three of the world’s experts at the AIANY Center for Architecture: Peter Kjelgaard Jensen, Head of Modern Design at Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers; James Zemaitis, Curator and Director of Museum Relations, R & Company; Vance Trimble, designer and collector.
