The Architecture of William Prescott
July 31, 2019
Architect William Prescott (1926-1971) grew up in Keeseville, earned a degree at Princeton, and worked at the architectural firm of Howell, Lewis & Shay in Philadelphia before returning to the North Country as principal of W. H. Prescott Associates in Plattsburgh, NY. His distinctly modern style—gently sloped roofs, large overhangs, wide chimneys, vertical wood siding and large expanses of glass—is evident across a wide range of residential, commercial, and municipal properties in the Adirondacks.
This tour organized by Adirondack Architectural Heritage includes stops at two Plattsburgh churches and several Prescott-designed private residences along with the opportunity to go inside the former Paleface Ski Center lodge and to view a stunning, mountainside camp in Keene Valley.
