The New Canaan Historical Society has begun a program of plaquing the town’s significant modern houses. The idea came about when the group was considering a plaque or marker for the newly opened Gores Pavilion for the Arts, the modern pool-house turned exhibit space in New Canaan’s Irwin Park. The oval plaque used for traditional houses that date back to the pre-revolutionary era seemed inappropriate for the aesthetics of a modern structure.... MORE

FLW home in NJ headed for Italy

A year ago we published news that Frank Lloyd Wright’s Bachman-Wilson House, located on the banks of the Millstone River in NJ, was available for purchase to a buyer who was prepared to dismantle the house and reconstruct it on a suitable new site. The house’s sellers, architects Sharon and Lawrence Tarantino, concluded that the only way to save it from the river’s increasingly frequent flooding was to move it to a safer site. This month it was announced that a prospective buyer has been found: an Italian architect wants to bring it to Fiesole, a hilltop town near Florence, where Frank Lloyd Wright once lived.... MORE
