The New Haven Preservation Trust (NHPT) recently unveiled an innovative new website that provides a comprehensive overview of New Haven's rich involvement with the Modern Movement. Over 130 built projects by more than 80 Modernist architects are at the fingertips of anyone wanting to know more about this “mid-century Modern architect’s playground.” ... MORE

For its 2014 season, starting May 1, the Glass House in New Canaan, CT, will offer a self-guided tour. For $75 each, visitors will be able to explore at their own pace more of the Philip Johnson-designed compound than is seen on less expensive group tours. Accessible on these extended circuits will be the Lincoln Kirstein Tower and the Pond Pavilion. ... MORE

On April 22, the National Trust for Historic Preservation proclaimed the New York State Pavilion at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens a “National Treasure.” The Philip Johnson-designed World’s Fair structure joins more than 40 other National Treasures nationwide, including the Houston Astrodome and the Ellis Island hospital complex, that are generally threatened by development or neglect. The announcement comes on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 1964/65 World’s Fair.... MORE

The World Monuments Fund/Knoll Modernism prize is awarded every other year to a design professional or firm in recognition of innovative design solutions that preserved or saved a modern landmark at risk.
