Brutalism: Demolish or Cherish?

On April 15 The Daily Beast blog took a swipe at Brutalism, that most polarizing of architectural styles, using the Paul Rudolph-designed Orange County Government Center as case in point. After launching with the rather unkind description “…the concrete-based style known as Brutalism…” author Nate Berg reaches a more balanced narrative with the help of quotes from DOCOMOMO NY/Tri-State president John Shreve Arbuckle. The article also provides a recap of the local government’s efforts to demolish the Government Center and the preservation contingent’s efforts to save it.
