News from the NYS Pavilion in Queens – and it’s all good
August 19, 2015
Painting of the Pavilion’s steel structure is progressing at an impressive pace. What a great yellow! As previously reported, the New York Structural Steel Painting Association, Local Union 806, District Council 9, IUPAT, working with NYC Parks, is providing $3 million in time and materials to complete the project. The NYS Pavilion Paint Project website features a photo gallery of the progress.
More good news. On August 12, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz announced a 2016 fiscal year budget that includes $32 million for park renovations in Queens. The largest piece of that pie—10 percent—is going for work on the NYS Pavilion. The $3 million allocation will fund electrical upgrades and renovations, hopefully bringing the site to a point at which it can be opened as public space for concerts and events.
