Modern New Canaan: Evolution of Design + Three Iconic Houses

October 17, 2021

The New Canaan Museum & Historical society will broadcast two programs produced by its Modern New Canaan initiative: Evolution of Design and Three Iconic Houses. The first program is a 25-minute presentation on why New Canaan became the destination for midcentury modern architects and what makes their work distinctive. The second, a film by Devon Chivvis, explores three iconic houses in New Canaan:the Celanese House (1959) designed by Edward Durell Stone, the Chivvis House (1978) designed by Eliot Noyes with an addition by Alan Goldberg, and the Boissonnas House (1956) designed by Philip Johnson. The evening will conclude in a round table discussion with homeowners, architects, and the filmmaker.

This event is part of October4design, New Canaan, Connecticut’s, month-long celebration of architecture, art, design and the community where it happens. Organized by the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society, New Canaan’s diverse creative community will open its doors to offer a peek into what gives this town its distinct character through panel discussions, Q&As, tours and lectures.
