Lunch and Learn: Mark Markiewicz on the Bauhaus Architecture

September 22, 2026

Join New Canaan Museum & Historical Society for a Lunch & Learn with architect Mark Markiewicz. Bring your sandwich, soup, salad or snack and hear Markiewicz’s richly illustrated exploration of the history of Bauhaus, the early 20th century experimental school of art and architecture in Germany. The school’s novel approach to architectural design had a direct influence on the New Canaan’s Harvard Five who were taught by Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus. Gropius came to America as a refugee from Fascism, was hired by Harvard to teach there and in the process radically transformed the school’s curriculum to reflect the Bauhaus vision.
