Join the New York Public Library for the book launch of Max Bond: The Life and Work of the People’s Architect, by Brian D. Goldstein, author and urban and architectural historian.

J. Max Bond, Jr., was a Black architect of international reknown whose best known works include the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem.

Following a presentation about the book, Goldstein will be in conversation with Mabel O. Wilson, author and professor of architecture, planning, and preservation. Together they will delve into the life and practice of one of the field’s true inspirations whose work and mentorship influenced a generation of architects and urban planners. The Bond Center for Urban Futures at the City College of New York (CCNY) is named for J. Max Bond, Jr.
