Highlighting examples of mid-20th century modern architecture, the Municipal Art Society of New York and architectural historian Matt Postal present a tour of buildings built before (and after) designation of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District in 1965. The varied (and perhaps controversial) itinerary considers buildings in and around the district’s most historic blocks, such as courthouses and memorials, middle-income housing complexes designed by Morris Lapidus and Kelly & Gruzen, government-financed artists’ housing, as well as early contextual designs approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
